We are a Garden Club with a Public Garden

“Our garden gate is open wide

And anyone can walk inside.”

The Chagrin Valley Herb Society is a group of gardeners and friends.  We are a working garden club and have built and maintained an herb and flower garden at the Bainbridge Library in Geauga County Ohio. The Herb Society was founded in 1989. Our first garden was dedicated in 1992 and was moved in 2021 to accommodate a new Library building.

Monthly Meetings

Our meetings are monthly, on the third Friday of the month at 12:30.  Programs educate us on gardening, herbs, and related subjects.  Our meetings are interactive, informative, and fun.  We love the science and beauty of the garden, the history of the plants, and the sensory enjoyment and usefulness of the plants.  The studies of butterflies, art, literature, folklore, taste and smell, and healthy cooking each have a place in our garden.

Our Dedicated Mission

We are dedicated to promoting an interest in the various aspects of herbs.  With pride in our gardens, we accept the responsibility of the maintenance of these gardens.  We accept with honor, the trust the Geauga County Library Board and the Bainbridge Library Staff have extended to us to do this well.  We also accept the challenge to make these gardens the most perfect we can.  This is mandated by the enthusiasm the public has shown to us by their continued use of the garden and their heartfelt compliments.

As We Create a New Garden

We are so grateful for donations made toward the building of our new garden.  Construction has begun and we are excited to begin planting in the spring and the rebuilding of our tea house!  Donations can be made to the Chagrin Valley Herb Society and sent to the Library or made through GoFundMe.

“The lesson I have thoroughly learnt, and wish to pass on to others, is to know the enduring happiness that the love of a garden gives.”
