We are so excited to be hosting the first of many annual plant sales at the new library!
Our annual plant sale is an event our members look forward to each year. We spend all spring making plant selections and growing plants to share them with the community. We are honored by each person who comes to the sale and takes one of our plants home to be a part of their garden.
In other years, our plant sale has been used to raise money to maintain the public gardens at the Bainbridge Library. This year, we are using it to launch a fundraiser so we can begin to complete the garden and re-build the tea house.
You may have noticed that we have installed several raised beds on the library grounds. These will be themed gardens that demonstrate herbs for many uses, including culinary, blue and silver, potpourri, literary, medicinal, butterfly, and 4 perennial beds for all-season color.
Our vision is much larger, and we hope that after construction is complete, our gardens will again be a cozy space to visit on your way in and out of the library. Over the years we’ve loved seeing teens visit after school, mothers exploring the garden with children after storytime, friends catching up before a meeting, and a quiet place to read a book on a warm summer afternoon.
In our plans, we hope to re-create the community space we had before. We intend to rebuild the tea house, construct stone paths, add benches, and create foundation plantings to ground the raised beds. We also have a vision for a storybook path that will surround our garden and highlight local children’s authors.
